About Me

A serene landscape featuring mountains, a clear blue lake, and lush greenery under a bright sky.

Robert Esselink, M.Ed, LPC, CADC

I’m a licensed professional counselor and certified alcohol & drug counselor in Metro Detroit specializing in addictions, anxiety, depression and men’s issues. My approach blends evidence-based modalities—Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness-based strategies, a 12 Step approach and trauma-informed care—with a respectful, optional integration of Catholic faith and spiritual values for those seeking it in their recovery.

I work full-time as a therapist in a residential treatment program serving a specialized population and I have been in private practice since 2023.

At the core of my counseling work is a deep belief in the power of meaningful connection to support personal growth. The mission is simple: Through honest conversation, empathetic guidance, and positive energy, I help people reduce the noise, tap into their strengths, and develop emotional intelligence that lasts a lifetime.

This work is about more than wins—it's about becoming whole, showing up fully, and creating a ripple effect of positivity in your life.

Want to Know More?

  • I coached youth baseball and softball in the Richmond & St. Clair area for over 10 years
  • One of my favorite places to relax is the Silver Lake sand dunes on the shores of Lake Michigan
  • I love my Jeep Wrangler, but don't care for the ducks.
  • I am a sports dad - my son plays college football and my daughter plays college volleyball. So the fall season, I'm putting thousands of miles on the car and fueling myself with way too much caffeine!
  • I am 100% a coffee snob (single origin, blend, pour over, French Press?)
  • I am a parishioner at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond but happily serve clients of all faith and non-faith backgrounds!
